Troubleshooting
The way out for the things that go wrong, in the order keepers meet them. Each page of the app has a help behind its question mark too.
Sync says nothing#
A shared folder exchanges changes only while both apps have been on screen with the folder reachable. Open the sync page: the watch line names whose changes wait; a tap syncs now. If the folder is out of reach, the note at the top says so and stays until the folder is back; on Android check that the folder's cloud client is still signed in and the folder still granted. A partner you never synced with in person is taken on trust from their file: that is normal.
A photo is missing after a sync#
A cloud client copies the photo files after the entry files. The next round of the folder watch fetches them without a tap; a cat whose photo has not arrived shows its placeholder until then.
A partner is named as still on the old version#
Their app writes the folder in the layout from before 2.0.0 and cannot read your segments until it updates. Everyone keeps what they have; nothing is lost. The name goes once they update.
Entries were refused#
The arrival page lists entries in a known name without the right signature. Either the partner has a new key, which an in-person sync pins, or someone wrote in their name. Nothing refused is lost on their side.
A value two people changed#
A conflict. The home's menu names them while there are some; the conflicts page decides them, and the decision reaches every device.
The app asks to report a crash#
After a crash, a freeze or a memory kill while the app was on screen, the next start offers a report with the system's reason; a battery saver closing the app does not count. The report goes by mail with what you add to it.
A lost or new phone#
The backups in the catlog-backups folder of your cloud client or USB stick, one full copy per catalog, are read by Restore in Manage catalogs on the new phone. A partner's shared folder brings everything back too, except private values that never travelled.
A wrong import or merge#
Go back to the moment before it: Moments. A merge itself cannot be undone, but the moment before it can be returned to.
The desk is not in the Linux menu, or shows no icon#
Start it once from a terminal or the file manager: it registers its own menu entry and icon on every start, for Homebrew, the tarball and the AppImage alike. The desk installed through Homebrew is in the menu right after brew install.
Something else#
Open an issue with what you did, what you expected and what happened; a crash report from the app is the best start.
